March 1, 2007 - Microsoft Corporation presented a guideline for e-health software solutions entitled "Connected Health Framework Architecture and Design Blueprint," which lays the foundation for an architectural approach to developing health information networks with common business and technical design definitions for public and private organizations.
The white paper describes a patient-centric framework, leverages service-oriented architecture based on standards of interoperability such as DICOM, HL7 and XML, and leverages streaming technology by Stentor for DICOM image viewing. Inspired by models in finance and banking industries, Microsoft recommends the "open standards code" for transforming healthcare through technology solutions that are dependable, economical, productive and connected by design.
