Philips introduced at the 2006 American Heart Association (AHA) the X7-2 x-MATRIX array transduce, which provides 4-D cardiac ultrasound imaging in infants and children for viewing the cardiac structure and blood flow, extending the company’s range of new cardiovascular solutions.
The new transducer is part of a range of pediatric and congenital heart disease solutions designed to offer small patients the same imaging, quantification and cardiac management benefits that adults attain from real-time 3-D echocardiography. The benefit of the ultrasound, according to the manufacturer, is not only its non-invasive nature, but it quickly captures volumetric data, enabling clinicians to obtain high-quality images in a short time, potentially reducing an infant’s or child’s emotional and physical stress level, in addition to providing surgeons with pre-operative views of cardiac anatomy and function.
