Siemens Medical Solutions and Universal Health Services (UHS) announced today their designation as winners of the 2006 Collaboration Award presented by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) for their collaborative disaster recovery efforts when Hurricane Katrina virtually destroyed two UHS hospitals.
When UHS was left with destroyed medical records and a lack of knowledge about where their patients were being transported, UHS was able to create a list of missing patients with the help of Siemens INVISION healthcare information system. Siemens then contacted all of their customers and continually searched the web in efforts to locate the missing patients. Siemens also collected medical equipment and supplies, gathered helicopters and ambulances and created a communication channel with remote assistance for UHS and countless other healthcare organizations that were affected by Hurricane Katrina.
Since 2003, CHIME has annually recognized the outstanding collaborative efforts of a CHIME Foundation firm and a CHIME member with this award.
