April 8, 2008 - Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals Inc. collaborated with Mobile Aspects to create VistaTrak, a touchscreen contrast media management system that gives users a new management tool designed to help enhance patient care and safety, optimize inventory management and improve billing accuracy.
VistaTrak provides solutions for the use of contrast media and works by combining RFID technology of “tagged” bottles of contrast agent with a “smart” cabinet and an interface specifically created to capture, store and manage product utilization data while helping to reduce the risk of human error.
Available in two different sizes, the system facilitates patient safety by automatically screening data from a patient’s electronic medical record (EMR) for contraindications and prior adverse events. It also captures information stored on the tag, such as NDC number, expiration date and lot number, automatically, supporting compliance with accrediting organization requirements.
VistaTrak provides contrast-dosing information aimed at improving billing accuracy and helping address any existing issues with reimbursement or audits, and tracks inventory to enable departments to order and manage inventory more efficiently and reduce waste, according to the company.
The collaboration entailed Mobile Aspects’ iRIS platform for clinical environments that use contrast media. Bayer is reportedly the first company to offer a contrast media management system based on an RFID platform to automate manual processes and capture operational data that currently cannot be found in any one system.
