Moving Into the Next Century of Transforming Medicine
By Melinda Taschetta-Millane
This week’s RSNA has been a celebration of “A Century of Transforming Medicine.” Today, RSNA’s new leadership was announced, setting the stage for RSNA’s next century of transforming medicine.
Ronald L. Arenson, M.D., FACR, was named president of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Board of Directors. Arenson is the Alexander R. Margulis Distinguished Professor and chair of the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at the University of California, San Francisco, where he has been since 1992. As RSNA president, Arenson will focus on the importance of patient-centered care and radiology's evolution from volume- to value-based practice.
Richard L. Baron, M.D., FACR, was named president-elect. He is professor of radiology at the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he has been since 2002, serving as chair of the Department of Radiology from 2002 to 2011 and dean for clinical practice from 2011 to 2013. At the University of Pittsburgh, he served as chair of the Department of Radiology from 1992 to 1999, and as founding president and CEO of the University of Pittsburgh Physicians from 1997 to 2002. As president-elect, Baron will continue to place a priority on organization and optimization of RSNA's educational offerings, given that lifelong learning is now so essential to the radiology community. Bringing together the RSNA international members and participants to maximize their educational opportunities and experiences will be an important emphasis.
Also, Richard L. Ehman, M.D., was named chair. He is professor of radiology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. As chair of the RSNA Board, he brings expertise in practice, education, research and leadership to support RSNA's mission of promoting excellence in patient care through innovation in radiology.
Our congratulations goes out to these newly appointment board members.
