Radiation oncologists from some of the country’s leading cancer centers will meet in Phoenix to discuss the appropriate use of proton beam therapy in the treatment of breast cancer. Proton therapy is a highly precise form of radiation currently being used to treat a number of cancers and non-cancerous tumors.

June 1, 2012 —Frank Mackinson of Bound Brook, N.J., became the first patient to complete treatment at the ProCure Proton Therapy Center in Somerset, N.J. The Somerset Center opened officially on March 20, one month ahead of schedule, enabling Mackinson to begin treatment on March 28.

The center is the third to open in a national network of proton centers being developed by ProCure. It is one of only 10 centers that offer proton therapy nationwide.
