Telecardiology Among New Enhancements to Philips Xcelera Cardiology Image Management System

August 14, 2009 – Philips is currently introducing its Xcelera R3.1 cardiology informatics system, which has new telecardiology capabilities to support clinical workflow and help provide faster sharing capabilities for cardiac patient information. Telecardiology allows remote access to cardiac information-including from a home office computer, image sharing with referring physicians and the ability to access Xcelera functionality through other applications such as an electronic health records (EHR) system. Xcelera R3.1's enhanced remote workflow capabilities fit into modern clinical environments by supporting flexible work schedules, coverage for satellite clinics and physicians on-the-go. Harborview Medical Center, part of University of Washington Medicine, was the first hospital to implement Xcelera R3.1. "Our clinicians are benefiting from more than increased access to studies with Xcelera R3.1. The system offers access to advanced analysis tools," said Edward A. Gill, M.D., director of echocardiography, Harborview Medical Center. "Having study quantification results automatically placed into patient reports and the clinical database simultaneously, enhances workflow and speeds diagnosis. This improves the quality of healthcare to our patients, our most important goal at Harborview Medical Center" "Additionally, the dedicated Philips services team conducted a smooth transition to Xcelera R3.1," continued Dr. Gill. "Philips did an excellent job meeting our specific needs for the upgrade and fulfilled, and in many areas, exceeded our expectations in its deployment." Philips said Xcelera R3.1 can seamlessly deliver cardiac images and clinical reports to an institution's EHR system. The new release also offers an expanded pediatric echocardiography normative dataset. Xcelera R3.1 is now available globally and upgrades are available for more than 2,000 existing Xcelera customers. In the report titled "HIMSS Analytics Essentials of the U.S. Hospital IT Market," (fourth edition, CPACS Chapter), Philips was cited as having the largest number of hospital-based cardiology image management systems in use in the United States. HIMSS Analytics is a market research database service of the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society.
