August 23, 2011 — PLC Systems Inc. said the final results from the REMEDIAL II investigator-sponsored clinical trial have been published online in Circulation, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Heart Association. It will appear in the September 2011 issue of the publication. REMEDIAL II is an Italian trial of the company’s RenalGuard device.

August 19, 2011 — Agfa HealthCare announced it would showcase its direct radiography (DR) solutions at AHRA 2011, the annual meeting for the Association for Medical Imaging Management. The event was held Aug. 14-17, in Grapevine, Texas.

August 19, 2011 – eMix, a business venture incubated by DR Systems, announced that 250 facilities are now using its cloud-based service for sharing medical imaging studies and reports. The 250th customer is Oregon State University Student Health Services in Corvallis, Ore.

August 19, 2011 – Addressing the need to improve diagnostic accuracy while making exams safer and more comfortable for patients, Toshiba America Medical Systems Inc. is showcasing patient-focused technology, including its Aquilion ONE and Aquilion Premium computed tomography (CT) systems, M-Power magnetic resonance (MR) system user interface (work in progress), Aplio MX ultrasound system and Kalare Wireless, at the Association for American Medical Systems Management (AHRA) annual meeting in Grapevine, Texas, August 14–17.

August 18, 2011 – The Methodist Hospital Research Institute in Houston, Texas, and Philips Healthcare have collaborated to develop new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and molecular imaging technology that could be used to help identify the start and cause of an infectious disease epidemic.

August 18, 2011 – U-Systems announced that it has been granted a medical device license by the Medical Devices Bureau of Health Canada to sell and market the somo•v automated breast ultrasound (ABUS) system as an adjunct to mammography for screening asymptomatic women for breast cancer in Canada. Approval was based on extensive clinical evidence and includes the following indication: “The somo•v ABUS ultrasound device is intended for use as an adjunct to mammography to provide physicians with an increase in the sensitivity of breast cancer detection in diagnostic symptomatic and screening asymptomatic women.”

August 17, 2011 — The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) announced the election of James K. Min, M.D., FSCCT, as its new president and John R. Lesser, M.D., FSCCT, as president-elect of the organization. Jeffrey J. Carr, M.D., FSCCT, is the vice president and Ricardo C. Cury, M.D. is joining the executive committee as treasurer. The announcement was made official at the sixth annual scientific meeting, recently held in Denver, Colo.
