Densitas Inc. announced it has received 13485:2003 certification from the International Standards Organization (ISO). This ISO standard specifies the requirements for comprehensive quality management systems for the design and manufacture of medical devices. Densitas is an early stage start-up company that develops software for use in the digital mammography enterprise.

In May, Group of Companies European Medical Center (GEMC) became the first private clinic in Russia to open a positron emission tomography (PET-CT) department producing its own pharmaceuticals. GEMC also opened a radiation cancer therapy department featuring two linear accelerators.

Anthelio Healthcare Solutions announced its patient engagement mobile application, Engage, has achieved Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC-HIT) 2014 Edition Modular Certification. The certification was granted via Drummond Group LLC, an Authorized Certification Body (ACB) that has been empowered to test software for compliance with the requirements of the federal government’s program. The stamp of approval designates that the software offers the functionality that enables eligible providers and hospitals to meet Stage 1 and Stage 2 Meaningful Use (MU) requirements, qualifying these organizations to receive payments under the ongoing electronic health record (EHR) adoption program.

Navidea Biopharmaceuticals announced that results from an investigator-initiated, comparative study of Lymphoseek (technetium Tc-99m tilmanocept) injection versus filtered Tc-99m Sulfur Colloid (fTcSC) were presented at the 2015 Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) conference. The study measured injection site pain in patients with breast cancer undergoing lymphoscintigraphy. Results of the randomized, double-blinded trial — led by Anne Wallace, M.D., professor of surgery at University of California, San Diego School of Medicine — highlighted that fTcSC caused statistically significant greater levels of pain after injection compared to Lymphoseek.

The Mevion S250 proton therapy system at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) is now treating patients, less than four weeks after the first Mevion patient was treated at Ackerman Cancer Center. The occasion marks the first time a proton manufacturer has simultaneously brought up two distinct facilities.
