The new positron emission tomography (PET) imaging method could measure beta-cell mass, which would greatly enhance the ability to monitor and guide diabetes therapies. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved the American College of Radiology’s (ACR’s) amendment to the 2016 Alternative Standard #24 to the “Quality control tests--other modalities” requirement. This FDA review and approval of the ACR Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) quality control (QC) test procedures enables the college to incorporate DBT into the 2016 ACR Digital Mammography Quality Control Manual.

IBA (Ion Beam Applications S.A.) announced that they completed the first two installations of the Proteus One proton therapy solution in Japan. The first installation took place at the Hokkaido Ohno Memorial Hospital in Sapporo and the other at the Narita Memorial Proton Center in Toyohashi. Both installations were successful, according to the company, as the Hokkaido Ohno Memorial Hospital installation took less than 12 months and the Narita Memorial Proton Center installation took less than 11 months.
